Though low on crime, the relatively undeveloped infrastructure in Myanmar brings some other risks, particularly around road safety. Any traveller can fall prey to illness and accident, or miss a flight due to delayed transport. A decent insurance policy will mitigate these, as well as other issues, such as lost or damaged equipment. Knowing you are covered will bring tremendous peace of mind, and save a huge amount of time, money, and inconvenience.
The vast majority of visits to Myanmar are trouble-free. However, civil unrest is always possible and political violence can flare up unexpectedly. There is also risk from the Zika virus, which can be dangerous if pregnant. Creating extra support in the event of these unlikely issues is a key reason to have travel insurance.
A standard policy should cover everything the traveller needs to Yangon but Myanmar off the beaten track may need additional premiums.
Travel insurance is always worth the cost.
